Catherine Gordon McKay was born about 1842 in Scotland.
She had a son in Caithness in 1862, and she emigrated to New Zealand in the mid 1860s.
She married James Bruce on March 2nd 1866 in Dunedin, and they had seven children.
When Catherine signed the suffrage petition they were living in Waikouaiti, north of Dunedin.
Four of their children predeceased them. Catherine died at her home on March 21st 1911 and James died in 1919.
They are buried in the family grave in the Waikouaiti Cemetery.
