Catherine was born about 1825 in County Limerick, Ireland.
She was married to Michael Cain and had, at least, three daughters.
In 1872 Michael was in court in Dunedin on the charge of 'deserting his wife and children, at Hokitika'.
When Catherine signed the suffrage petition she was living in Greymouth working as a shopkeeper.
She died in Greymouth on 3 December 1916 and is buried in the Karoro Cemetery.
