Catherine Frances Holmes Millar was born on 7 January 1869 in Lismoyle, County Antrim, Ireland – the daughter of James Sloan Millar, a farmer, and Catherine Hunter Holmes.
She emigrated to New Zealand with her family in the late 1870’s where she married John McQueen on 12 August 1891 at her family home, Lismoyle at Chatton, near Gore.
They had six children and when Catherine signed the suffrage petition they were living at Knapdale, north of Gore.
They later moved to Invercargill where John died in 1923 and Catherine died on 20 August 1954 – they are buried together in the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery.
