Catherine Irvine was born on 21 December 1825 in Tingwall, Shetland Islands – the daughter of William Irvine, a fisherman, and Catherine Linklater.
She emigrated to New Zealand and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living in Hampden in North Otago.
Her nephew William Irvine Nicolson was also living in Hampden.
She died in Hampden on 8 November 1911 and is buried in the Hampden Cemetery.
