Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Catherine Bowman was born in about 1829 in Dunfermline, Fifeshire, Scotland. She married James Mowbray, a weaver, in 1848.

They had at least nine children before they emigrated to Otago on the Janet Court in 1874. Their daughter Agnes also signed the 1893 suffrage petition.

James died in 1912 and Catherine died on 19 April 1915, and they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
