Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Catherine Robertson was born on 2 July 1839 in Kirkmichael, Perthshire, Scotland — the eldest daughter of James Robertson, an agricultural labourer, and Margaret Ayson.

Catherine emigrated to Otago with her family on the Southern Cross in 1856. They settled in Puerua, South Otago where they lived by farming.

Catherine married Thomas Tolmie, a farmer, in 1863 — they had no children.

When Catherine signed the suffrage petition they were living at Jarvis Bank Farm, Warepa.

Thomas died at Waitapeka in 1900 and Catherine died on 1 July 1930 at Ross Home, Dunedin.

She is buried in the Warepa Cemetery with Thomas.
