Cecilia Jane Hay was born in 1868 in New Zealand – the daughter of David Hay, an engine driver, and Cecilia Dow.
She grew up in South Otago and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living in Clinton.
She married Erland Peter Erlandsson, a fireman and engine driver, in 1894 and they had four children.
Cecilia died at Clinton on 27 August 1937 and Erland died in 1948 in Gore, they are buried in the family grave in the Clinton Cemetery.
