Charlotte Goodley was born about 1852 in Northamptonshire, England.

She married John Lightfoot, an engine driver, in 1873 and they emigrated to Otago in 1875 on the Adamant.

They had six children and when Charlotte signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Bluff.

John died at their home in 1918 and Charlotte died on 29 October 1929, they are buried in the family grave in the Bluff Cemetery.
