Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Charlotte Cockburn was born about 1837 in Stirlingshire, Scotland – the daughter of Alexander Cockburn, a bricklayer.

She married Robert Walker, a baker, on 7 March 1862 in Glasgow and they had four children.

The family emigrated to Otago in 1874 on the Parsee – their five-year-old daughter Elizabeth died on the voyage.

They settled in Bluff where their last two children were born.

Robert was declared bankrupt in 1886 and again in 1892 – they were still living in Bluff when Charlotte signed the suffrage petition.

Robert died at their home 'Kinross' in Bluff in 1901 and Charlotte died on 3 July 1921 at her daughter’s (See 341 Margaret W Barber) home, they are buried together in the Bluff Cemetery.
