Alice May Chetwin was born in 1870 in Oxfordshire, England – the daughter of John Chetwin, a house painter, and Clara Brimfield. (See 65 Clara Chetwin)

Alice emigrated to Otago with her family in 1874 on the John Nicol Fleming and they settled in Dunedin.

She did not marry and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Cargill Rd, South Dunedin.

Alice died on 5 March 1938, she is buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
