Christina Finlayson was born on 17 June 1859 in Contin, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland – the daughter of Finlay Finlayson, a gamekeeper, and Catherine Gray. (See 54 Catherine Finlayson)
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1872 on the May Queen and settled in Dunedin.
Christina married John Porteous, a law clerk, in 1878. They had one child before John died in 1881, he is buried in the Northern Cemetery.
Christina did not re-marry and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living in Clyde Ave, Mornington, Dunedin.
Christina died on 7 March 1936, she was cremated and her ashes buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
