Christina Yellowlees was born on 1 August 1861 in Hawick, Roxburghshire, Scotland – the daughter on Thomas Yellowlees, a woodcutter, and Elizabeth Laidlaw.
Christina married John Oliver in 1881 and they had a daughter before they sailed for Otago in 1883 on the “Caroline”.
They settled in Dunedin and had a further six children.
When Christina signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Rutherglen in Kaikorai and John was working as a wool spinner.
John died in 1918 and Christina died on 12 October 1944 – they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
