Louisa Christine, also known as Christina Olivia Creagh was born in 1866 in New Zealand – the daughter of John Creagh, a law clerk, and Isabella Craig.
In 1870 Christine’s father was found guilty of embezzlement and sent to prison for 3 years.
After his release the family moved to New South Wales.
Christine was living with her elderly grandmother in Lambeth Rd, Dunedin when she signed the suffrage petition.
She married William Beckett on October 19th 1893 in Dunedin - they had 3 sons and ran a boarding house at Waikouaiti, north of Dunedin.
William died in 1919 and Christine died in Dunedin on July 2nd 1944. They are buried together in the St John’s Churchyard, Waikouaiti.
