Christina Grant was born about 1854 in Scotland.
She married Bertram Spiers, a labourer, on 31 December 1872 in Old Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire.
Christina and Bertram had two sons before they emigrated to Canterbury in 1876 on the Jessie Osborne.
A further four children were born after their arrival in New Zealand.
When Christina signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Anderston, Roslyn, Dunedin.
In 1913 the family home in Roslyn was destroyed by fire, three years later Christina died 16 February.
Bertram died in 1915, they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
