Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Sinclair Margaret Twatt/Watt (known as Clara) was born on 2 November 1854 in Walls & Sandness, Shetland, Scotland – the daughter of William Twatt and Lillias Williamson.

She emigrated to New Zealand and she married George Wilson Bridges, a draper, on 27 August 1875 in South Dunedin.

They had seven children and lived in Mosgiel, near Dunedin.

George was declared bankrupt in 1887 and when Clara signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Factory Rd, Mosgiel.

George died in 1942 and Clara died on 21 January 1946, they are buried together in the East Taieri Cemetery.
