Clara Matilda Foulkes was born in Aston, Warwickshire in 1852.
She emigrated to Canterbury in 1873 on the “Mary Shepherd” and she married, seaman, James Barclay Robertson in 1877.
They had five daughters and when Clara signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Clyde Avenue, off St David Street in Dunedin.
Shortly after they moved to Christchurch where James died in 1922 and Clara died on 31 December 1926 – they are buried together in the Sydenham Cemetery.
