Clara Bennett was born about 1860.
She married storeman Alexander Simpson in 1888 and they had four children.
When Clara signed the suffrage petition the family were living in East Gore.
They later moved to Invercargill where Alexander died in 1929 and Clara died on 19 December 1944 – they are buried together in the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery.
