Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Clara Birtles Atkin was born in 1855 in Norton, Derbyshire, England - possibly the daughter of Emma Atkin.

She emigrated to Canterbury with Emma in 1863 on the Captain Cook and she married James Tregear, a tinsmith, in 1882.

They had four children and when Clara signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Forth St, Dunedin.

Clara died on 3 February 1921 and James died in 1932, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
