Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Annie Ewart Barnett was born about 1869.

She married Frederick Felix Paul Cooper, a storeman, in 1892 and they had two sons.

When Annie signed the suffrage petition in Greymouth she was living at Wallsend, near Greymouth.

They moved to Whanganui in the 1900s and Frederick applied for a divorce in 1902 on the grounds of desertion. He was granted custody of the children and remarried the following year.

Annie married again in 1908 to Thomas Hammond, a farmer.

Thomas died in 1916 – he is buried in St Stephens Anglican Cemetery in Marton.

Annie died on 8 September 1966 – she is buried in the Waikumete Cemetery.
