Emily Amelia/Milly Ellis was born in 1867 in Brighton, Sussex, England – the daughter of Maria Ellis. (See 104 Maria Crosweller)

Her mother married George James Crosweller, a painter, in 1871 and the following year the family emigrated to Otago on the Christian McAusland.

They lived in Mosgiel and Caversham then Milton.

Amelia signed the suffrage petition in Dunedin – she married Robert McIntyre Sproul, a cook, on 28 April 1894 in Dunedin and they had three children.

In the 1900s the family moved to Auckland where Amelia died on 31 December 1949.

Robert died the following year, they are buried together in the Purewa Cemetery.
