Delia Goddard was born in Victoria, Australia in 1853 – the daughter of George Goddard and Elizabeth.
She married James Duncan Gillan, a sawyer, in Victoria in 1868 and they had six children, two who died in infancy, before the family sailed for Otago in 1878.
They had a further nine children and lived in Owaka in South Otago.
Delia signed the suffrage petition in Cumberland St, Dunedin, possibly while visiting her son.
She died at Riverton on 16 May 1916 and is buried in the Riverton Cemetery.
James died at their daughter’s home in Dunedin in 1920 – he is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
