Alice Baker Denne was born in 1847 in London – the daughter of Elizabeth Denne.
She married blacksmith Clement Denne in 1874 and shortly after they boarded the Wild Deer bound for New Zealand.
They settled in Mataura where Alice signed the suffrage petition and where they had seven children.
In 1898 they moved to Dunedin then to Horopito in the North Island where they ran a store.
Alice died at her home in Wanganui East on 24 February 1919 – she is buried in the Heads Road Cemetery.
Clement re-married later that year – he died at their son’s home in Eketahuna in 1924 and is buried in the Mangaoranga Eketahuna Cemetery.
