Devinia Kennedy Dickson was born on 3 June 1856 in Glasgow – the daughter of John Carrick Dickson, an engine driver, and Janet Haddow.
She emigrated to Otago with her family in the 1870s and she married Robert McIntosh Meffen, a grocer, in 1880.
They had four children, one who died in infancy and when Devinia signed the suffrage petition they family were living in Bath St, Dunedin.
Devinia died at her home in Dunedin on 24 January 1910 – she is buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
Robert re-married in 1920 – he died in Palmerston North in 1921 – he is buried in the Terrace End Cemetery, Palmerston North.
