Dinah Davis was born in County Clare, Ireland. She and her younger sister immigrated to New Zealand in 1863, arriving at Port Chalmers. Two years later, Dinah married Benjamin Davis, a boat builder. Dinah and Benjamin lived in Dunedin and had seven children: Sarah, Hugh, Ellen, Bessie, Francis, Benjamin and John. In 1918 Dinah died at her home at 51 Stafford Street. She was 76.
