Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Elizabeth Bewley was born about 1860 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of James Bewley, a baker, and Hannah Huddlestone Freer.
She sailed for Otago with her family in 1865 and they settled at West Taieri where her father died in 1871.
The family moved to Dunedin and when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition she was living in George Street, possibly with her sister Ellen. (See 47 E Aldred)
Elizabeth died on 15 March 1935 – she is buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
