Elizabeth Grace Huxtable Hicks was born in 1862 in Swansea, Wales – the daughter of George Hicks, a school teacher, and Ann Huxtable. (See 103 A Williams)
Her father died in 1872 and sometime after this the family emigrated to New Zealand.
Elizabeth married Samuel Bishop in 1879 and they had five children.
When she signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Jacobstown in Gore.
Elizabeth died on 20 August 1917 and Samuel died in 1924 – they are buried together in the Gore Cemetery.
