Eliza Borrie was born on 10 February 1850 in Clunie, Perthshire, Scotland – the daughter of Donald Borrie and Jean Douglas. (See 59 Mrs Jane Borrie)
She emigrated to Otago with her parents in 1852 on the Agra and lived with her parents on the family farm 'Balmoral' near Outram on the Taieri Plain.
She did not marry and, after her father’s death in 1883, she moved to Dunedin with her mother.
When Eliza signed the suffrage petition she was living with her mother in Leith St, Dunedin.
She inherited a substantial interest in the family farm after her mother’s death and she continued as the proprietor with the farm being leased.
Eliza died on 1 May 1941 in Dunedin, she is buried in the family grave in the West Taieri Cemetery.
