Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Elizabeth Ann Moore was born in 1852 in Tywardreath, Cornwall – the daughter of William Henry Moore, a copper miner, and Elizabeth Harris.
As a young child she sailed with her family for Victoria where they remained until the Otago gold rush in the 1860s.
Her father 'visited most of the earlier rushes and ultimately settled in Naseby'.
Elizabeth married, butcher, Robert Peter Botting on 5 December 1870 at the Naseby registry office.
They had 10 children, three who died in infancy, and they moved to Dunedin in 1890.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition they were living in Russell Street, South Dunedin.
Robert died in 1925 and Elizabeth died on 19 August 1932 – they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
