Elizabeth McLean was born about 1853 in Scotland, the eldest child of William McLean and Elizabeth Deans.
She emigrated to Otago with her family on the Strathallan, arriving in January 1858. They settled in Waikouaiti, north of Dunedin.
Elizabeth married James Broadfoot, an expressman, on February 12th 1875 in Dunedin. They had six children.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition they were living in Harcourt St, Belleknowes, Dunedin.
James died in 1894. He is buried in the Southern Cemetery.
Elizabeth died on June 30th 1925. She is buried with their daughter in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
