Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Euphemia/Effie Alison Burgess was born in 1864 in New Zealand – the daughter of James Burgess and Isabella Alison McIntyre. (See 53 Mrs I Burgess)

Effie went to school in Roxburgh in Central Otago and when her father died in 1888 she moved to Dunedin with her mother and siblings.

When she signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Frederick St.

Effie did not marry and she died on 5 January 1928.

She is buried, presumably with her parents, in the Roxburgh Cemetery.
