This is my great great grandmother, Ellen Burney (new McGrath). She was a fiesty Irish woman that raised a family of 9 with her Jamaican husband, Peter Burney. She had a hard life fighting against racism as her children were dark skinned. Being Irish and a widow, she was used to injustice. For her to sign the right to vote took courage and determination. Very proud of her for giving me and my female counterparts the right to voice our opinions and vote for whom we please.
