Elizabeth Corson Laidlaw was born about 1835 in either Scotland or England.
She married William Bishop Evans, a cheese factor, on 28 August 1859 in Everton, Lancashire and soon after their marriage they emigrated to New Zealand.
They had seven children, one who died in infancy, and lived, at first, in Dunedin and Invercargill. William worked as a grocer and was declared insolvent in 1864.
The family moved to Greymouth where William was once again declared insolvent in 1869.
Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition in Greymouth.
William died in 1911 and Elizabeth died at her home on 25 August 1930 – she is buried with William in the Karoro Cemetery.
