Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Elsie/Elcena Agnes Christie was born in New Zealand in 1866 – the daughter of William Christie and Mary.

The family lived, at first, in Dunedin where they ran the Caledonian Hotel.

About 1869 they moved to Keithmore Farm near Warepa in South Otago where Elsie married William Robert Cameron, a company manager and exporter, on 6 July 1886.

They had six children and when Elsie signed the suffrage petition they were living in High St, Roslyn, Dunedin.

All four of their sons served in WWI and all four returned home.

William died in 1919 and Elsie died at her daughter’s home in Christchurch on 9 February 1947.

She is buried in the Ruru Lawn Cemetery, Christchurch.
