Ellen Burke was born about 1858 in Ballygar, Galway, Ireland.
She emigrated to Otago in the late 1870’s and she married, coal dealer, Michael Condon on May 6th 1879 in Dunedin.
They had 4 children and when Ellen signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Andersons Bay Road.
Michael died in 1907 at their home in St Kilda – he is buried in the Southern Cemetery.
In later life Ellen moved to Blaketown in Westland to be close to her family.
She married Timothy Moriarty, a widower and farmer, in 1930.
Ellen died on July 8th 1936 at Greymouth and Timothy died the following year.
They are buried with Timothy’s first wife in the Karoro Cemetery.
