Biographical information provided for the He Tohu exhibition:
Ellen Davis Easterbrook was married to John Easterbrook, a Rangiora dairy farmer. There was a lot tragedy in her life as John died in 1883, aged 44, after a long and painful illness; and her adopted daughter Edith died aged four. In 1907 Ellen remarried to a surveyor, Richard John Worsley Cooke. She died in 1926, aged 83.
