Elizabeth Sutherland was born in 1860 in Latheron, Caithness, Scotland – the daughter of George Davidson Sutherland and Dorothy MacKay.
She came to New Zealand with her family as an infant and they settled at Waitati, north of Dunedin.
Elizabeth married Edward Thompson Drummond, a railway stoker, on 29 January 1885 in Waitati.
They had four children and lived in Clinton before moving to Dunedin around 1892.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition the family were living in South Dunedin.
They later lived in Palmerston, Invercargill and Auckland where Edward died in 1942 – he is buried in the Waikaraka Cemetery.
Elizabeth moved back to Dunedin, at this time only one of their children was alive and he was living in Australia.
Elizabeth died in Dunedin on 29 June 1946 – she is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
