Elizabeth Ann Brookes was born in 1863 in New Zealand – the daughter of Henry and Ellen Brookes.
She married Alexander Forbes, a painter and signwriter, on 26 December 1881 at her mother’s home in Dunedin and they had one daughter.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition she was living in Forth Place, North Dunedin.
At the time of her mother’s death in 1893 Alexander was “on his way to this colony from San Francisco” – he died in Johannesburg in 1898 “the result of an accident”.
Elizabeth died on January 1st1918 in Dunedin – she is buried with her mother in the Northern Cemetery.
