Ellen Grove Levers was born in 1852 in Barnet, Hertfordshire, England – the daughter of Richard Grove Levers and Margaret Biddington. She travelled to Otago with her sister Fanny on the 'Sussex' in 1874.
Ellen married Thomas Moore, a carter, at the English Church, Milton, on 12 July 1875. They had six children, one dying at birth.
The family later moved to Dunedin, living in William St, then Montpellier St where Ellen signed the suffrage petition.
Ellen died on 13 February 1899 and Thomas died in 1911. They are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
