Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Edith Amelia Counsell was born in 1851 in Somersetshire, England, she emigrated to New Zealand about 1880 and married Louis Kossuth Holden, a tailor, in 1881.

They had three children and, when Edith signed the suffrage petition, the family were living in Broughton St, Roslyn, Dunedin.

In later years Louis became the proprietor of the Music Exchange in the Octagon and the family moved to Manor Place.

Edith died at her home on 27 August 1936 and Louis died in October of the same year, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
