Eleanor (Ellen) Jane Neville was born about 1842 in County Tyrone, Ireland, the daughter of Thomas Neville, a farmer.

She married William Henry Neville on July 8th 1861 in Pomeroy, County Tyrone. They had two sons before William died, possibly in 1867.

Eleanor sailed for New Zealand in 1876 on the Howrah arriving in Nelson.

The following year her twin daughters were born in Wellington, and Eleanor became Mrs Sullivan.

The family were living in Dunedin by 1882. When Eleanor signed the suffrage petition she was living in Jetty Street.

She died at her home in York Place, Dunedin on August 12th 1917. She is buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
