Ellen Chettleburgh was born in 1868 in London – the daughter of John Chettleburgh and Annie Pearton. (See 124 Mrs Chettleburgh)
She emigrated to Otago in 1875 on the Adamant with her family and they settled in Dunedin.
Ellen married William Peter Kirkwood in 1890 and they had five children.
When Ellen signed the suffrage petition the family were living in High St, Maori Hill.
William died in 1924 – he is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
Ellen died on 16 August 1963 – she was cremated and her ashes were scattered.
