Ella Mary Hayward was born in London in 1866 – the daughter of John Hayward, a jeweller’s assistant, and Eliza Emma Parsons. (See 94 Eliza Hayward)
She emigrated to Otago with her family about 1877 and they settled in Dunedin.
When Ella signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Kirkland Hill, Kaikorai working as a tailoress.
Ella married David Prentice McMillan, a bootmaker, in 1902 and they had two children.
David died in 1937 and Ella died at Balclutha on 28 December 1948, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
