Widdowson, Emma Matilda, 1859-1915: Born and educated in Bristol, England; also Switzerland. Travelled to New Zealand in 1877 with her parents, Mr and Mrs F Lawrence. She became a teacher until her marriage in 1885 to Howell Young Widdowson, a solicitor. She was a strong supporter of the National Council of Women and the Womens' Christian Temperance Union, in Christchurch. She went to live in Dunedin in 1905 and died there on 15 May 1915.
