Ellen Ann Walls was born in 1871 in Chelsea, London – the daughter of William Walls and Mary Ann Bath.
She came to New Zealand with her family and they settled in Gore.
Ellen married James Paterson in 1891 and they had five children, two who died in infancy.
Ellen signed the suffrage petition in Gore – the family moved to Christchurch in the late 1890s.
James died in 1908 and Ellen died at her home on 1 March 1917 – they are buried together in the Sydenham Cemetery.
