Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.
Helen/Ellen Robertson was born about 1829, possibly in Scotland.
When Ellen signed the suffrage petition she was living with her husband Joseph, a gardener, and their son in Leith St, Dunedin.
In 1895 Joseph was reported missing when he was travelling over land between the Silverpeaks and Dunedin and parted from his travelling companion. His body was found a few days later. Helen died at her son’s home on 1 January 1909 – she is buried with Joseph in the Northern Cemetery.
