Ellen Susannah Lucking was born in 1860 in Essex, England – the daughter of George Lucking , a farmer, and Maria Parnell.
She married David Henderson on 29 August 1890 in Queensland, Australia.
Soon after their marriage they came to New Zealand and had five children.
When Ellen signed the suffrage petition they were living in John St, Roslyn, Dunedin.
They retired to Owaka where David died in 1939 and Ellen died on 9 June 1946, they are buried together in the Owaka Cemetery.
