Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Emma Teresa Littlewood was born in 1860 in Doncaster, Yorkshire, England – the daughter of Richard Webster Littlewood, a grocer, and Emma Priest.

She emigrated to Wellington in 1872 on the Bebington with her mother and two siblings – her father had presumably already arrived in the country.

Emma married Henry Alexander Lamb, a clerk for the Public Trust Office, on 15 January 1879 at Christ Church, Wanganui.

They had eight children and when Emma signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Bluff.

Not long after this they moved to Wellington where Henry worked as Deputy Controller and Auditor-General.

He died in 1922 and Emma died on 26 December 1929 in Wanganui - they are buried together in the Karori Cemetery.
