Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Elizabeth was born about 1848, probably in Scotland.
She married George Taylor about 1868 in Scotland. George was a Scotsman who had spent the previous 8 years in Australia and New Zealand.
They sailed for Otago where they lived, at first, in Cromwell where George worked as a gold miner.
He later swapped mining for work as a shepherd and they lived at Kawarau Falls and Mount Pisa stations.
They had, at least, five children and in the late 1880’s they settled in Gore where Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition.
George died in 1911 and Elizabeth died on 14 June 1922 – they are buried together in the Gore Cemetery.
