Edith Annie Trezise was born in 1872 in Cornwall, England, the daughter of James Trezise, a mason, and Ann Jenkin.

She emigrated to Wellington with her family in 1875 on the Berar. Her mother and sister Emily died on board the ship shortly before their arrival, and the ship was placed in quarantine for a couple of weeks after it reached land.

Edith’s father remarried in 1881.

When Edith signed the suffrage petition they were living in Richmond Rd, South Dunedin. She was working as a dressmaker.

Edith died at Timaru on July 9th 1951. She is buried in the family grave in the Waimate Cemetery.
