Edith Jane Maria Ann Day was born in Westport, New Zealand in 1872 – the daughter of David, a Customs Officer, and Annie Maria Day.

Edith married Frederick Croot, an iron moulder, in 1895, and they had one daughter.

Frederick died in Dunedin in 1907. Edith died at her daughter’s residence – Longwood, Southland on 1 September 1925, and she is buried in the Riverton Cemetery.
